Silk Road International League of Theatres
丝绸之路国际剧院联盟
In 2013, when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Central Asia and Southeast Asia, he raised the initiative of jointly building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st- Century Maritime Silk Road (hereinafter referred to as the Belt and Road), which has attracted close attention and received widespread response from all over the world. To further increase cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation between countries along the Silk Road, with the support and under the guidance of China Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Ministry of Culture), CPAA Theatres Ltd, subsidiary of China Arts and Entertainments Group, proposes establishing the “Silk Road International League of Theaters” (SRILT) in October, 2016. All members in the league consent to the principle of “negotiate, cooperate, and share”. The league proactively engages in the cultural and artistic development in the countries along the Silk Road, which brings new vitality to this ancient road. By December 2019, 124 members from 42 countries and regions have joined the league, covering the continents of Europe, America, Latin America, Asia and Africa. The “SRILT” now has become the world’s largest platform for performing arts exchange and cooperation.
Now, the SRILT has been listed as a key project by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in its “One Belt One Road Action Plan (2016-2020)”. President Xi Jinping recommended that “African Countries are highly welcome to join the Silk Road International League of Theatres” at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in August 2018.
In the future, the “SRILT” will be developed to be the biggest organization for theaters around the world under the effort of CAEG and CPAA. The league actively pushes Chinese outstanding performances to “go out” in order to spread Chinese culture and tell Chinese stories. It will also play the role as “Integration”, launching many innovative cultural exchange programs among the “SRILT” members in different level and depth. With an open and global perspective, Silk Road International League of Theaters will link international renowned theaters, performing troupe, performing arts agency, manufacturers – and capital investors all together, gradually achieve market-oriented operation. In this way, a cross-industry and cross-border cultural integration and thus establishing the largest scale of cultural industry chain will become reality, promoting the integration, prosperity and development of cultural and artistic institutions around the world.
